The role of the Principal Designer, created in 2015 under the revised CDM Regulations 2015, superseded the CDM Co-ordinator role which was itself part of the CDM 2007 Regulations.

We have extensive in-house expertise relating to the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM) 2015 and their application enabling us to offer Principal Designer services to assist, advise and inform Clients in the execution of their duties under the Regulations.

Pittilla Bell co-ordinate the Designers involved in the Project, in terms of designing Health and Safety into the construction, use, maintenance and ultimate demolition of the Project from the very start.

Pittilla Bell advise on competence, adequacy of information, the Health and Safety Design process and the Health and Safety Plan.
Emphasis is placed upon practical measures which improve the safety of the Design rather than merely creating paperwork.

Pittilla Bell’s Principal Designers are also experienced Civil and Structural Design Engineers with a long history working in the Profession on a wide variety of projects. This has provided each of them with a solid knowledge base in relation to pre-construction and construction activities together with the associated Health and Safety Management issues.

Our team of Principal Designers have undertaken this role since the introduction of the Revised Regulations in April 2015. Prior to that they carried out CDMC duties under the CDM 2007 Regulations which initially became law in 1995.

Membership of the Association for Project Safety (APS) widely recognised as the leading body for CDM Co-ordination professionals is held by each Principal Designer in the Practice.

Health and Safety legislation is wide ranging with numerous Regulations applicable to construction design and site works. Pittilla Bell’s Principal Designers undertake regular ongoing professional development training, including attendance at APS seminars, to ensure that a high level of competence in Health and Safety management issues is maintained through knowledge updates.

This is supplemented by the maintenance of an extensive in-house Health and Safety database resource including copies of relevant Regulations, Health and Safety Executive guidance documents, industry standard guides etc all of which assist our Principal Designers with providing a competent high quality service to Clients.
